Sunday 26th February will see football’s first final of 2012 being played at Wembley in London. Both Liverpool and Cardiff City will be playing in front of 90,000 fans at the £750million stadium. This will be Liverpool’s first game at the ‘new’ Wembley having played previous finals at the Millennium Stadium, (which is located in Cardiff’s home city!) and the ‘old’ twin towers Wembley before that. Liverpool are also the most successful team in the cup, having won it seven times already. Championship side Cardiff City are no strangers to cup finals having played in the 2008 FA cup final, but lost 1-0 to Portsmouth.
The Carling Cup started life as the Football League Cup back in 1960 and has been given various names via sponsorship deals over the years. Older footballing fans will remember the ‘Milk Cup’ and ‘Littlewoods Challenge Cup’. Recently players have battled for the ‘Coca-Cola Cup and ‘Worthington’s Cup’. Molson Coors have sponsored it since 2003, given it one of it’s brand names ‘Carling’ so we now know it as the ‘Carling Cup’.
Normally LRB Trophies would wish both teams all the best for the final, but both Sales Manager, Steve Butler, and Head Engraver, Andrew Butler are both Liverpool fans, so LRB Trophies just hopes it’s a great game for everyone.
LRB Trophies has recently taken delivery of 250+ Footballing Trophies and Awards ready for the end of season presentations and finals. We now have items starting from just £1, and all items can be engraved by our ‘in house’ team in time for your team or clubs event. LRB Trophies will also collect or deliver your items for FREE in the Selby/York area, and will deliver further afield for a small fee (£5 per 20 miles – round trip)
Why not come and visit our showroom in Selby’s Town Centre and see what we have to offer. We can also bring our items to your committee meetings for you to choose from. Contact the sales office for more details. 01757 290559 or email: steve@lrbtrophies.co.uk
