Trophy Blog #113 – A very warm welcome to the businesses who have decided to start trading or expand in Selby town centre. Clothing retailer M & Co is moving into the Abbey walk premises, once the building work has been completed. Three empty shops are currently being knocked into one bigger shop and the increased floor space should create a few extra jobs. At the moment I’m unsure what is happening with the old store they are leaving, but it shouldn’t be long before news arrives on who is taking it over. Further along Gowthorpe, ongoing work is happening on the old whiskers site, this is welcomed as the space has been unused for many years. Some social media users has noticed and discussed an old doorway has been uncovered at the back of the building, so it would be great if that was preserved into the new construction. Three retails units will be created once the renovation work is completed – These smaller units have been snapped up already and we look forward in seeing the jobs available once they are open. Next week (9th October) will be the 4th Jobs Fair to be held for job seekers in the local area. It is on all day inside the sports hall at Selby College and has been arranged by Nigel Adams MP with help from the Job centre. Buses to the college will be running all day and the site has plenty of free parking available. Many local businesses will have hundreds of jobs available. More News on this will be featured in next weeks column.
We are delighted to announce our partnership with the York Union of Golf – we are now their official suppliers and engravers. The York Union of Golf Clubs was formed in 1931 and fourteen clubs across Yorkshire are Members. We look forward to working with the member clubs in the future. http://www.theyorkunionofgolfclubs.co.uk/
Theo Paphitis SBS award winner, Wear Eponymous wanted to show off their SBS win with one of our SBS Trophies. This is her feedback. “Hi Steve, It’s brilliant – very speedy service! Cheers for your help :)” – Elaine Burns
Trophy Blog #112 – Recently we attended the 4th Selby Jobs Fair, This is the newspaper column I did on the day. – Selby Fairs Fair is being held in the Selby College sports hall for most of the day. LRB Trophies has again agreed to volunteer my time to give out free helpful advice to the 800+ job seekers who will be attending during the day. I have done this at the previous fairs to help people with CV issues or seeking employment. This time last year I offered to look at over 30 different CV’s. In the weeks that followed, I wrote to all the people who handed them in giving tips and guidance. Each CV had something that could be changed or added. The aim is to get that CV to the top of the pile. I’m going to do the same this year and offer basic tips, tweaks and improvements. Some I can spot within a few seconds, such as having a phone number for the recruitment manager to ring, others might be nearly perfect and don’t need much help. The Fair is once again organised by my LBA award business mentor, Nigel Adams MP. He and his team are working with the job centre and also the team at Selby College. Over 40 businesses are working together in the same room at the same time. Job seekers are able to talk to as many people as possible in the same day. This year over 500 jobs are available it will be great to hear of some good news stories from successful people in the future. Last year we had a person offered an interview within ten minutes of arriving and someone else starting their new job the very next day. Companies involved at last years event included Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Heineken, Drax Power and Shepherd Construction.
“Hi, I just want to say a massive thanks for our plaques they are perfect. I can’t thank you enough for the speed in which you completed our order. We will definitely be in touch for any future orders we have. Thanks again Bev”
