Blog #35 The footballing world has gone Bonkers! Gareth Bale has transferred to Real Madrid for a world record £85 million – which is 100 million euros. The former Tottenham player was presented to more than 20,000 fans at the famous Bernabeu Stadium. Speaking in Spanish, he told the home fans: “It is a dream to be here in Madrid. Thank you for this welcome.” He will wear the number 11 shirt for the new 13/14 season. He has signed a £300,000 per week, six-year deal and passed a medical this morning. Club president Perez smashed his own world record transfer having previously signed Ronaldo for £80 million. Bale took to the pitch and did a few tricks before kicking several into the crowd. He was also given a tour of the club’s trophy room. Rumours around the footballing world said that he would be a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid have invested crazy money to try and reclaim the Spanish league title from Barcelona and aim to capture their 10th European Cup. Bale has not played for Tottenham this season, and was subjected to a Spurs club fine for not turning up to training. I doubt now that this fine will be paid as it is slightly smaller then the fee Spurs have banked. Bale will now travel back to the UK as his next game will be for Wales. They have two World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Serbia. In a few weeks time he will take to the Bernabeu pitch in front of a much bigger crowd.
