14075610525_79189da2cb Cliffe FC, sponsored by LRB Trophies, are crowned East Riding County FA Qualifying Cup Trophy winners with a 3-2 win over Drum Athletic. Malcolm Bryce writes. Cliffe FC travelled to the home of Pocklington Town FC on Tuesday evening to face Drum Athletic from the East Riding Amateur League. Manager Keith Tiplady making four changes from Saturday’s FA Cup triumph, saw his side take the lead within the first 10 minutes – Andy Addison pealing away from his marker to loop a great header past the ‘keeper into the net, 0-1. Si Houlder broke the offside trap but saw his shot placed just wide of the post. The referee set a standard from the first minute and let a lot go, in what seemed an attempt to let the game flow and 10 minutes before the half-time interval Drum drew level, Tony Cardwell breaking through and sliding the ball under Dave Laverack to make it 1-1 at the break, 1-1 HT. Cliffe began the better of the two sides at the beginning of the second-half, Tom Robinson beginning to get some joy down the left wing and man-of-the-match Lee Carter dominating in the air. Houlder came close once more but with around 20 minutes remaining Drum took a 2-1 lead, a loose ball in the six yard box pounced on by a Drum player to put the East Riding Amateur side ahead. Tiplady threw on an extra striker in the shape of Chris Jackson in an attempt to get his side back into the tie, and with no more than 12 minutes remaining a Jackson shot took a big deflection and looped over the ‘keeper to make it 2-2. Momentum was with the York League side now and with only 5 minutes remaining in normal time, Robinson and Houlder broke down the left squared it to Jackson who hammered home to send the travelling Cliffe contingent into raptures putting his side 3-2 ahead. Drum resorted to an ineffective long ball for the final minutes, Robinson and Addison protecting the ball in the corner for the final moments – 2-3 the final score, Cliffe FC – East Riding County Cup Winners 2013/14.
