Vincenzo Nibali races to Victory
Vincenzo Nibali has won the 101st Tour de France as he finished the final stage on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. He had a winning margin of 7.37 minutes over second placed Jean-Christophe Peraud. He is the first Italian winner since Marco Pantani in 1998. The Tour de France started over here in the UK with billions of fans tuned in to watch the various stages in and around Leeds, York, Harrogate, Cambridge and a classic finish in front of Buckingham Palace in London. The tour de france has been running for weeks. It started on Saturday July 5th and ran on 21 different courses in the UK and French countryside until the victory celebration on Sunday July 27th. The total distance of the race is over 2,200 miles. 2013’s trophy winner and UK favourite, Chris Froome had to quit the race early after crashing in the opening stages. Nibali won four stages of the Tour, including one in each in the mountain stages in the Vosges, the Alps and the Pyrenees.
