Trophy Blog #103 ~ A local Trophy and Engraving business doesn’t just send their products to near by sports clubs and businesses, they have now ventured further afield into new territory. The Romanian Curling Federation are now customers to the Selby town centre based company. The Federation chairman got in touch with Business Partner Steve (our trading up columnist) via eBay as they had spotted the ideal item for sale via their online Trophy shop. After a few email exchanges, Steve was able to source the rest of the items on his list, arrange the engraving and dispatch it all in time to meet the three week deadline. Engraving Manager Andrew Butler (Steve’s brother) had an extra task to tackle, he had to find a way to change the set up of the engraving machine to cater for the extra markings in the Romanian Alphabet. This took a while to do, and luckily he remembered how to reverse the process back into English mode for future orders. The family business sent a big package to Bratislava in Slovakia via courier. The customer requested regular tracking updates , so Steve watched online as the parcel traveled via East Midlands airport and onto a huge cargo hub in Belgium before entering Slovakia for the final road journey into the city of Bratislava. The Romanian team had entered the National Curling Championships and needed prizes, trophies and medals to hand out to the 27 team members who took part. Steve asked for a few photos to be sent over to him to see how they got on and both parties have agreed to stay in touch for future requirements. Curling reached a new British audience back in 2002 when Britain won the Gold medal at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics. Hopefully the current British squad will do the same at the Winter Olympics currently taking place in Russia.

On the 7th September, Andrew, our Head Engraver who engraves all of our Trophies, will be
hitting the streets of Newcastle to raise funds for the York Teaching Hospital Charity by
taking part in this year's Great North Run. He hopes to raise over £500 for the charity by
running the 13.1 mile course.

Andrew, who also volunteers as a governor at York Teaching Hospitals NH Foundation Trust
said: “I've only ever ran once before when I did the York 10k for York Mind, so I'm
really looking forward to the challenge to raise some money for a great charity and
promote some of the fantastic work they do. In Selby the charity worked with The Friends
of Selby Hospital to provide two self care dialysis machines which will save those in
need of regular dialysis from having to travel to York or Leeds several times a week by
providing the care closer to home. The time saved in travel over the course of treatment
gives precious hours and days back to the patient to spend with their families
- You really can't put a price on the benefit these machines give!”

It all hasn't been plain sailing for Andrew while training, shortly after signing up
for the Great North Run he took a tumble and injured his right leg. It was a bit
touch and go to as to if I'd be able to take part in the run, but thanks to a bit
of determination and a referral to the superb Physiotherapy team at Selby Hospital
I'm all healed up and ready to face that start line.”
14153178026_222d620634 Cliffe FC, sponsored by LRB Trophies, are crowned York Minster Engineering Football League Junior Cup Trophy winners. Cliffe FC complete a superb trophy treble by retaining the York League Junior Trophy, beating South Milford 7-4 in an 11-goal thriller. Malcolm Bryce writes…
“Our last 13 games saw us win 11, draw 1 and lose 1 in 45 amazing days, a fantastic run that landed us 3 cups and clinched promotion to Division 1. I’m really very proud of the whole club.”
~ Keith Tiplady, 13th May 2014. Cliffe FC 7 - 4 South Milford 12May14 A cold and wet first half, the rain soaking both player and brave spectators, began with Cliffe opening scoring within the first 60-seconds, Kevin Taylor crossing to Si Houlder who controlled the ball and put it past the ‘keeper to make it 1-0. Andy Addison doubled Cliffe’s lead, pouncing on a loose ball to finish left-footed past the ‘keeper, 2-0. Cliffe further extended their lead, Chris Jackson being dragged down in the area – Jackson scored the spot-kick to make it 3-0 near the half-hour mark. Milford grabbed a goal to make it 3-1 before Cliffe restored their 3-goal cushion, Jackson breaking the offside trap and lobbing the ball over the on-rushing ‘keeper, 4-1. Milford scored another goal to make it 4-2 as the goal-fest of the first half continued, Tom Hogg forced a defensive error and smashed the ball past the ‘keeper to make it 5-2. Hogg then assisted Houlder, Houlder tapping in his second of the game for 6-2. South Milford made it 6-3 at the break, pouncing on a Wes Pears slip and neatly lobbing the ball over Dave Laverack, 6-3 HT. The second period didn’t match the goal-fest of the first-half but South Milford attempted to make a game of it and scored the first goal of the half, to make the score 6-4. Taylor saw a cross/shot from a tight angle tipped onto the bar and Ryan Sedman was called into action at the other end, clearing the ball off the line before Jackson completed his hat-trick, an emphatic right-footed finish to make it 7-4 – Jackson’s 40th goal in all competitions for Cliffe FC this season. 7-4 it remained until the final whistle and Cliffe FC retain the York League Junior Cup to go along side their York FA Cup and East Riding County Cup trophies, not forgetting promotion to Division One.
008 (2) Trophy Facts #20 – Cliffe FC, sponsored by LRB Trophies, are crowned York FA Junior Cup Trophy winners with a 2-0 win against Fulford.   Cliffe FC 2 - 0 Fulford | Cliffe FC - York FA Cup Winners 2013/14   Malcolm Bryce writes: A less than smooth FA Cup campaign that started way back in September with a 9-0 win against Crayke. The first half of the final was an even affair, Fulford having the ball in Cliffe’s half for a good portion of the 45 whilst Cliffe drew saves from Fulford’s ‘keeper at the other end, Tom Hogg and Chris Jackson both having close range shots saved. Whilst the score remained goal-less at the break, Cliffe knew they had more to give in the second half. Cliffe FC began bright in the second-half and looked most likely to score but they had to remain patient, numerous shots blocked, a breakaway saw Ian Beckram flash a shot over the bar and Ryan Sedman see a cross that floated over the ‘keeper and crashed off the bar. A quick thinking set-piece with around quarter hour remaining saw Andy Addison slide a ball across the box that found it’s way onto the right foot of Adam Durnin that managed to squeeze his shot through a crowd of players and into the net, a cup final winning goal a perfect way to celebrate his birthday, 1-0 to Cliffe. Fulford had to chase the game in an attempt to grab and equaliser in an attempt to send the tie to penalties and committed more men forward but Cliffe sealed the win in the final minutes, Reuben Pearse – who celebrates his birthday the day after Durnin – played the through ball for Si Houlder to slot under the ‘keeper and into the net to put the tie beyond Fulford and make the final score 2-0.   Trophy Blog #70 ~ Millions of sports fans around the world will tune in tonight for the 2014 Super Bowl. (11pm UK time) The Denver Broncos face The Seattle Seahawks for the title of Super Bowl XLVIII winners. American football is watched by millions of people during the season, but hundreds of millions could watch this one game. The main focus to the build up has been the freezing temperatures it could be played in, as this will be the first final played in a cold weather city. It could drop to -14 at this time of year. For non sports fans, the half time show pulls in even more viewers, and this sometimes over shadows the actual game. This year the headline act will be Bruno Mars. He has sent the music world into a frenzy by publicly inviting the Red Hot Chili Peppers to join him on stage to create one big super band. The MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, New Jersey and is the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. The Denver Broncos are based in Denver, Colorado. They began playing in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. The Seattle Seahawks are based in Seattle, Washington and they joined the NFL in 1976 at the same time as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Seahawks are famous for being owned by Paul Allen, one of the co-founders of Microsoft.
